What could make you change your mind?
Trailseeker blogged about voting by mail, and how he's glad he got his voting done. He mentioned several local and statewide issues that are in the air. I commented that one potential problem with early voting is that Stuff Happens. If Significant Stuff happened between now and Election Day, an early ballot has already been cast, and can't be uncast.
I was going to ask on his blog, but decided instead to ask on mine: is there a Big Thing that could happen that would change your mind about your vote for President? What sort of thing? Would it have to be a scandel, or would a big event do?
I don't think I would change my mind because of a big event, like a terrorist attack or a lot of new casualties in Iraq. However, if my candidate of choice was involved in something scandalous, that would prevent him from doing the job if he were elected (think Nixon and Watergate, or Bill and Monica) I would probably not vote for president.
I sure as heck wouldn't vote for the other guy.

I wasn't sure if you were suggesting I may have made a mistake by voting early or that you were just wondering about the possibility. Good question, my first response is there are a lot of "what if's" in life.
I imagine if something like you suggest did happen, then I may change my actions in a later election. One of the problems I am faced with is that the ballot comes and then it sits there to be forgotten as we go about everyday life, It has happened here when the issues on the election are more benign and more easily dismissed, so I tend to get the homework done before that happens.
Yes, last minute events can have a drastic effect. I just read an article about some possible scenarios that could play out, such as the 11th hour capture of bin laden.
My mind was made up BEFORE I watched Farenheit 9/11.
I would sooner vote for Bozo the clown (same thing?) before I voted for Shrub Junior.
Amen.
Yeah, what Ms-C said. I wouldn't care if Kerry had a dozen interns. And if Bin Laden were suddenly captured, I would be even more pissed at Bush for not making that his first priority long ago before he decided to bomb Iraq.
If John Kerry were to die of a heart attack before the election, what would happen then? Would we get a new election with a new Democratic candidate?
Getting your homework done ahead of time? Come on - you know you are supposed to do that second quarter term paper over breakfast the day it's due.
But no, after reading the papers for almost four years I see what direction things are going, and will continue to go, and have no doubt how I will vote. The military capturing somebody, or a terrorist blowing up the Empire State Building, or an old girlfriend showing up with a baby would not cause a change.
Here in Nevada we can vote now, and I'll be down to my local booth as soon as I can figure out these dozens of assorted propositions. But for people I've made up my mind (bye bye W).
Great question Brenda, I hope Randy weights in on that.
I wonder if Edwards would become the defacto candidate.
