Branson
We stayed at Treehouse Condos. They really lived up to the name! The complex is built in the side of a mountain, with trees all the way down - so when you step out onto the deck, it feels like you're in the treetops. Our place was a two bedroom, two bath condo at the top of the complex. We had a lovely deck with a wonderful view of Table Rock Lake and the Ozarks.
I did not take my camera, unfortunately. I did buy a disposable while I was there, and took a bunch of pictures, but I haven't taken them all yet, so I don't have them developed. Film seems so primitive.
It was a long drive getting there, with a frustrating "this will be funny someday" experience searching for Burger King in a suburb of St. Louis that cost me an hour - an hour I really didn't want to spend looking for a Burger King, but once I'd spent that long, I was committed, y'know? We should have been there in less than twelve hours. It took fourteen, with stops. The trip back was just about the same. On the upside, Little Boy was an absolute joy to travel with; pleasant and accomodating and cheerful except for about 20 minutes on the drive there, when he got cranky and unpleasant. I suggested that he should go to sleep, which he promptly did.
We really didn't do much while we were there. There is a lot to do in Branson - shows, shows, and more shows, plus Silver Dollar City, a themed amusement park that was about three minutes up the road. But it was $120 for the three of us, and I just couldn't see spending that kind of money on something I didn't know existed three days before. Instead, we just hung out. DH and Little Boy played a LOT. We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner. I read the Rolling Stone Interview with Bono. DH and I watched "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," because we found the tape under a table. We took a walk down to the lake, where Little Boy and DH threw rocks, destroying a good portion of the erosion control in the process. It was just wonderful being a family again, and doing normal things. I'm glad we didn't try to cram other stuff in.
In other news, I leave for home three weeks from today. No word yet on whether the guys will keep me on from down there.
I will post some pictures when I get the camera used up. I have a company "winter party" on Friday; that ought to finish them off.

Hi Ann, thanks for the update, sounds like a wonderful get-away! My wife wants to drive out to that area this summer to see her brother who just moved there from Vermont. I am looking forward to the hikes and mountain climbing we have planned next summer than a road trip. Glad you had a nice time.
Branson? I don't remember you saying Branson. I thought that was the place of Q-Tips going to all of those ex Vegas stars that can't make it on the Strip any more and go to buy their own showplace.
Branson is a little town with lots of showplaces in the Ozarks. We didn't stay in town, we were about seven miles out, on a peninsula at Table Rock Lake. Branson is a "presence," but we really didn't interact with it much, except to go to the grocery or to eat out.
The area is a little "resorty" for my tastes, but we were able to maintain an illusion of natural surroundings.
