Funeral

In the face of my friend’s devastating grief
I cube a melon and bake bread.
After the services and interment of the beloved,
The family will gather at the church and
Eat the meal prepared for them.
We want to stop them hurting
But only bring food.
Their last meal with the dead.

Food is about all we can do when a death occurs.
Have you guys been watching Grey's Anatomy? A lot of food involved in the death of Izzie's love. I find it profound. Not the whole show, just that helpless offering of food in the face of insurmountable tragedy.
