Never book a seat on the last flight out, and other travel advice

DH and Older Son are going to be stuck in Atlanta overnight. Their flight out of New York was delayed by many hours, and they are going to miss the (last) flight to New Orleans that they were scheduled on. They are flying out tomorrow a.m. They may make it to my little boy's "graduation" in time.

There are many, many flights to New Orleans from Atlanta during the day, but the odds of recovering from a cancelled or delayed flight decrease if you start out later. And of course, if you're scheduled on the last flight out, and you miss it, you're shafted.

It's a drag; I was looking forward to them coming home tonight.

Tomorrow's schedule is going to be in an uproar because of Little Boy's "graduation" from pre-school. I have a pre-calculus exam, which I will need to take during the earlier section, because I am giving a speech: Nursery Rhymes in Early Childhood Learning for graduation. I'm not just in the audience; I'm a participant. Little Boy is acting out the part of Jack Be Nimble. He has a MUCH easier job.

I will miss my Organizational Communications class tomorrow, and I don't know if there's class on Thursday. I will just go and see what happens.

I watched Design Rules on BBC America. Laurence Llewelyn Bowen is SO yummy. I should have been studying. Oh, well...I can go study now.

The flight left on time, which I thought was interesting, because the weather here is miserable. It's practically black out, at 7:50 a.m.

But they should make it to the graduation in a timely manner.

My mother showed up for my law school graduation as we were lining up to enter the college chapel. She got to the airport too late the night before to catch her flight. But did she attempt to call the airport in St. Louis to let me know? No, I hung around there for an hour or two, then went home to a message on the answering machine. So instead of entertaining my mother that evening, I went out and got drunk with some friends. So in the end it all worked out for the best.

They missed the big processional, but they arrived in time for all the other whoop-de-doo. One of the activities was something that *I* taught the kids - we (kids, teachers, audience) sang "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and the "ABC Song" at the same time. Same tune, different words. It was fun. And my speech went well. And we have a picture of Mark in a cap and gown! I don't even have a picture of my HS grad in a cap and gown. I will link a picture on my blog today.

DH and OS are both very, very happy to be home. OS apparently gets motion sickness after he's done flying. Nobody got much more than five hours of sleep or so last night, so we are probably all going to bed. I hope little boy doesn't destroy the house while we're sleeping.
